As a common woman, we all want to look like the stars everyday,
but how can we do this with a small budget. Let me tell you.
For many of us, looking good comes with a big price tag. Most often, we are
compelled to splurge on a fashion item like a new purse or a new pair of heels but
have to opt out because of those nasty things we call bills. So for those who yearn
to look fashionable but cringe at the thought of what it might cost, here are a few
tips and tricks for getting that "to die for" ensemble without the bill that will have
you drop dead.
Just because it's on sale, doesn't mean it's a good buy.
Although it may be on the costlier side, you have to consider it an investment.
If you find a beautiful camel-coloured trench coat for $250.00 that you can see yourself wearing every day, then
it's a much smarter choice finance-wise to buy it over three $100.00 trenches that
wear and tear early because of their poor quality. Sale items look alluring on the
rack, but once you take them home and get a few wears out of them, they begin
to lose their value much faster than a more expensive, higher quality item that will
last you much longer.
If you don't feel amazing in it, put it back.
This is the biggest mistake fashionistas on AND off a budget make. If it doesn't feel
right, don't buy it! Telling yourself to lose ten pounds to make it look good is not
going to work: your clothes should work to fit you, not the other way around. If
you don't follow this rule, chances are you will find yourself with a closet full of
unworn items that still have the tags on them, because you never did get to lose
that ten pounds you intended on losing to fit into them. This not only causes you
to lose money but to also lose your sense of style.
Always purchase items that you can use with three or more outfits.
If you can't envision yourself using it with less than three outfits, don't buy it.
Chances are it's a "fad" item, and will lose its lustre in the fashion industry very
quickly. Pieces like this include: flashy handbags, shirts with specific "trendy"
sayings on them, or even clothing pieces that stand out with a lot of embellishments
(think: fringe). Items like this are geared towards people who have a lot of
disposable income with the ability to move through fashion trends like many of
us move through socks. This is a big no-no for the fashionista on a budget.
So just be smart, you don't have to make a six figure salary to stay
fashionable. Keep these three golden rules in mind will help you
channel your inner fashionista and save your money.
